The box that started it all.

The idea for this blog started many months ago when, searching for information on my husband's ancestors, I ordered a box of correspondence (one of many such boxes) to view at Archives NZ in Wellington.

This is the box =>

I opened the box not really knowing what to expect.  Inside were individual collections of correspondence with immigrants, and as I searched through looking for items relevant to my husband's family I started reading some of the stories.  One in particular piqued my interest - the story of Agnes Murray.  Over the next few months my mind returned on numerous occasion to Agnes and the others whose stories lie hidden in the box.  There is no index to these boxes, no way of knowing if that missing piece to the puzzle or way through the brickwall might be tucked away in its dark interior.

I wanted to know what genealogical treasures these boxes might hold and so this blog was born.  Each post will feature a story from the box, including names and details, and maybe one day someone will find in my posts the tale of their long lost relative come to life!

If you wish to view this box at Archives NZ yourself, the full reference is:
